After two years as a group, with over 100 live shows under their belt, and a multitude of contributors backing them up, Grey Milk is kicking things into full gear with their second record - a new full-length effort entitled City Parks After Dark, released by Nobody's Favorite Records. Primarily the work of Jesse Houle and Sean Watson, a duo known for their high energy and positive attitude, Grey Milk takes to the stage with a dire urgency not matched by many acts of the day, especially those with an acoustic foundation. Ranging from stripped down "skim" performances to large scale exhibitions mirroring their recording effort, their show is refreshingly unpredictable and can conform to virtually any setting. Their sound is as varied as it is unique. With ample vocal harmonizing, intricate interactions between instruments, group participation and an undeniable intensity, Grey Milk songs are anything but static. Smooth bass lines and a tastefully added array of instruments layer the songs to a satisfying completeness. Songs reach cathartic peaks from withering valleys, while lyrically Houle focuses on the personal and the global, the philosophical and the empirical. With City Parks After Dark, a fresh new version of an ever-evolving sound, to accompany their 2006 EP, Strong Bones and Teeth, and possessing a more eager intensity than ever to perform for new listeners and old friends alike from their New England home turf to locales as far as they can travel, Grey Milk will surely be hard to overlook in 2008. |
